NIFTY OI Positioning — Live
Aggregate open-interest positioning combined with dealer GEX for a full structural view.
What is OI positioning?
Total CE and PE open interest across all strikes tells you the SIZE of the currently held options positioning on NIFTY. When total CE OI is 5× larger than PE OI, retail and institutions are collectively holding many more call positions — usually a bullish structural bias, but at extremes it can be contrarian (over-crowded). This page combines the aggregate totals with the derived PCR, dealer GEX and regime for a single comprehensive positioning view.
Reading the numbers
Total CE OI — sum of open call contracts across all strikes and current expiry. Total PE OI — same for puts. PCR (OI) — Put/Call ratio, computed from the two totals. Net Dealer GEX — the market-maker's net gamma exposure in ₹Cr per 1% move. Regime — long-gamma (+γ) or short-gamma (−γ), the single most important intraday context. Together these six numbers tell you the current structural setup at a glance.
Positioning vs flow
Positioning (OI level) = SLOW-moving structural context. Flow (OI change, aggressor delta) = FAST-moving intraday signals. Successful traders use BOTH: positioning for the daily bias, flow for the entry timing. Example: total CE OI 3× PE OI (bullish structure) + strong intraday buy pressure = high-conviction long. Positioning alone gives context but no timing; flow alone gives timing but no bias.
Dealer GEX as the interpretive lens
The regime chip reflects whether dealers are net long or short gamma at current spot. This CHANGES how positioning translates to price action. Bullish structural PCR + short-gamma regime = writers are exposed to a squeeze if spot breaks down. Bullish PCR + long-gamma regime = writers are protected, structure holds. Frequently Asked Questions
How is total OI computed?
Sum of open interest across every strike in the current expiry, per side (CE and PE).
What's a normal PCR range?
0.7 to 1.3 for NIFTY indices. Outside means significant structural bias.
Does positioning predict direction?
Weakly on its own. Combined with dealer regime, meaningfully.
How fresh is this?
60-sec cache on this page. Live in /dashboard.
Why does OI level differ from OI change?
Level = cumulative positioning. Change = today's fresh activity.
