What is an ICT order block?
An 'order block' in ICT (Inner Circle Trader) terminology is the LAST OPPOSITE-COLOUR CANDLE before a strong directional move (displacement). The idea: institutions leave a footprint when they accumulate — a small candle in one direction followed by a big candle in the other. That last-opposite candle IS the accumulation zone. Bullish order block = last bearish candle before a bullish displacement. Bearish order block = last bullish candle before a bearish displacement. Price often returns to test these zones and reacts from them.
How OptionAlgo detects BANKNIFTY order blocks
Our implementation is stricter than the classic ICT rule to avoid noise: a displacement candle must have body ≥ 0.9× ATR(10) (tunable). We then walk back up to 6 bars to find the last opposite-color candle. Each order block is tracked as ACTIVE, TESTED (price touched but didn't break), or BROKEN (price closed through). Broken blocks are removed. Active blocks are marked as either BULL OB (support) or BEAR OB (resistance). We cross-reference with GEX walls so the zones shown here overlap with genuine dealer footprint, not just price-action noise.
Trading order blocks
Long entry on a bull OB test: wait for price to return to a bull OB zone; look for rejection candle; enter long with stop below the OB bottom. Short entry on a bear OB test: mirror image. Best when: the OB aligns with a GEX wall (dealer defense) AND with a session high/low. Avoid when: the OB is a stale zone (> 3 sessions old) or is broken.
Order blocks + gamma flip
The most powerful setup combines an OB with the γ-flip crossover. When BANKNIFTY spot approaches a bull OB from above AND is above γ-flip = long-gamma regime pins spot = high-conviction long entry. Frequently Asked Questions
What's the ICT displacement rule?
A candle whose body is ≥ ATR × 1.2 in one direction, following an opposite-colour candle. That opposite-colour candle is the order block.
How long do order blocks stay valid?
Until they're broken (price closes beyond) or tested with rejection multiple times. Fresh blocks (< 24h old) are strongest.
How do OBs relate to GEX walls?
OBs are price-action-derived; GEX walls are OI-derived. When they overlap, the zone has double-conviction — both dealer positioning AND institutional footprint agree.
Are these detected in real-time?
This page uses GEX-wall proxies (60-sec cache). The /orderflow terminal has true ICT-rule live detection per bar per timeframe.
Can I trade order blocks alone?
Better with confirmation from volume or GEX. Alone, OBs work ~50-55% of the time; with GEX-wall alignment, closer to 65%.
