What is options order flow?
Options order flow is the record of who is buying, who is selling, and — most importantly — who is WRITING new positions at each strike. Because Indian F&O trades as displayed limit orders on the NSE, the buy-side vs sell-side of every transaction is public. Aggregating over a session shows the net dealer positioning at each strike, which drives short-term price magnetism. When put writers pile into a strike below spot, that strike becomes a soft floor (dealers now HAVE to defend it). When call writers pile in above spot, that strike becomes soft resistance. The top ΔOI flows of the current FINNIFTY session are listed above.
How to read the flow snapshot
Top ΔOI strikes — the six strikes with the largest change in open interest today. Positive numbers mean fresh writing (short volatility, sellers taking premium). Negative numbers mean unwinding (positions being closed). Call writing sum = total OI added to strikes above spot on the CE side; a large number is bearish (sellers do not expect a breakout up). Put writing sum = same for PE below spot; large PE writing is bullish (sellers do not expect a breakout down). The net bias chip summarises the tilt. When it disagrees with the price action of the day, the session usually resolves in favour of the writers.
Combining flow with the dealer gamma regime
The regime chip in the hero card reports whether dealers are long or short gamma at current spot. Order flow interacts with the regime: PE writers under a -γ regime get punished (dealers add to the down move); PE writers under a +γ regime succeed (dealers dampen the down move). This is why the same OI buildup produces opposite results on different sessions — spot's location relative to γ-flip changes the hedging response. The dashboard's Order Flow tier surfaces this cross explicitly with a 15-minute rolling aggressor delta overlay on the GEX profile.
Full streaming Order Flow terminal
For real-time tick-level order flow — footprint charts (bid/ask volume at every price level), DOM ladder, volume profile with VAH/VAL/POC, market profile TPOs, aggressor tape, liquidity heatmap and per-strike option aggressor breakdown — open the [Order Flow terminal](/orderflow). It's a paid tier because the underlying 5-level depth feed from Kotak Neo runs 24/7 and processes tens of thousands of quote updates per second. Free tier gives you the snapshot above; the terminal gives you the actual tape.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between order flow and OI change?
OI change is one signal within order flow. Full order flow includes the aggressor (buyer vs seller-initiated) breakdown, book pressure, and the tape of individual prints. The snapshot above shows the OI-change slice; the /orderflow terminal has the full stack.
Can I see the aggressor delta live?
The snapshot shows aggregate writing/unwinding. Real-time aggressor delta (aggregate buyer-initiated minus seller-initiated volume) is in the /orderflow terminal — paid tier because it needs the streaming tick pipe.
How fresh is this data?
Cached for 60 seconds during market hours. For real-time (< 5 sec latency), use /dashboard or /orderflow.
What does 'net bias' mean?
The direction implied by which side (CE or PE) saw more fresh writing today. Bullish = put writers piled in (they don't expect spot below their strikes). Bearish = call writers piled in (they don't expect spot above their strikes).
Do you use real bid/ask volume?
For options, yes — via the Kotak Neo 5-level depth pipe. NSE order books are visible; we reconstruct the tape from the live quote stream. For NSE futures we also have depth data. Cash-equity flow is inferred.
Is this available for BANKNIFTY / SENSEX?
Yes — sibling pages exist for BANKNIFTY, SENSEX and FINNIFTY. Data source and refresh cadence are identical.
